In my lifetime there has been the top four largest mass shooting in US History. Let that sink in for a moment. I am 18 years old and have lived through the history of these for tragic events. Each hitting me more and more becoming more real as I got older. Thats not even including hate shootings such , or other terrorist attacks like the Boston Marathon Bombing.
The latest largest mass shooting in United States history occurred over the weekend. October 1st a man rained down bullets on the Route 91 Harvest Festival. At a music concert 59 were killed and over 500 have injuries (current numbers). I would be lying if I said this doesn’t scare me. I would be lying if I said this does not effect how I live my life because it does.
As a young female I have experienced several times of men cat calling me. Several to many. Within 2017 I can think of five instances where men clearly said something to me regarding my body and/or the things they would do or stared at me as if they were undressing me in their mind. Because of this I carry pepper spray.
Last night I was in my room around 8 o’clock in the evening a man was at my front door looking through my living room window. I didn’t think for an instance he was there for anything else but to harm me. I called 911 and officers arrested the man and assured my safety. This was the first instant I felt my life in direct danger. And this was nothing to the extent of the tragedies I have been alive through. This compares nothing to Charleston Church Shooting, The Boston Marathon Bombing, The shooting in Newton, Conn., The shooting in Blacksburg, VA., The shooting in Orlando, Fla., or the latest shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada. Let Gods grace surround these grieving families and the Holy Spirit fill those who are fighting for their lives.
